Number and Times of Services/Rehearsals

  • 1 service, Sunday, 11:15 a.m. 10:30 warm-up
  • 1 rehearsal, Wednesday, 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with the Director of Music to select appropriate music for the liturgical season
  • Accompany rehearsals and services
  • May be asked to vocally rehearse music in sectionals

Qualifications

  • Must have accredited training in organ technique and pedagogy
  • Excellent sight-reading skills

Number and Times of Services
  • 10:30 a.m. Sunday Holy Eucharist
  • Special Services on Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter, and Christmas

Responsibilities:

  • Choose and perform musical selections for services, in collaboration with the rector. To include hymns, anthems, service music, preludes, and postludes.
  • Lead and rehearse choir once during the week and on Sunday morning before 10:30 a.m. Holy Eucharist.
  • Coordinate and secure hiring of supplemental musicians (e.g., soloists and instrumentalists).
  • Schedule and oversee the upkeep of instruments, especially by arranging for regular tunings, etc..
  • Assistance with weddings and funerals with first right of refusal and established fees.
  • Recruit, train, and encourage new choir members.
  • Maintain order in the choir room and with the music library inventory.
  • Maintain a regular schedule of personal rehearsals.
  • Be willing to learn and offer creative solutions in order to advance musical excellence at Good Shepherd.
  • May utilize church instruments for private lessons in consultation with the rector.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of Diocese of Texas training courses, “Safeguarding God’s People” and “Safeguarding God’s Children” and background check.
  • Knowledge and experience within the Anglican/Episcopal tradition of worship preferred.
  • Organ proficiency.
  • Bachelor of Music preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience conducting a choir is preferred but not required.

  • Set of Schulmerich Handbells

Salary:

  • The position is 10-12 hours/week (1/4 time) with a salary and two weeks’ vacation.
  • The annual salary starts at $20,000 and will depend upon training and experience.

  • Special Services on Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter, and Christmas

Responsibilities

  • Lead the musical program of the parish
  • Select hymns, service music, and anthems for worship on Sundays and other days of religious observance (Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Christmas)
  • Provide leadership of the volunteer and paid choir
  • Recruit both volunteer and paid choir members
  • Collaborate with the rector and staff to plan and lead the musical offerings for other parish events and worship services.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of Diocese of Texas training courses, “Safeguarding God’s People” and “Safeguarding God’s Children” and background check
  • Knowledge and experience within the Anglican tradition of worship
  • Proficiency and formal training in choral conducting and organ

Resources

Built by the Austin Organ Company of Harford, Connecticut, the organ at Galveston’s Trinity Episcopal Church was completed in June of 1989. The three-manual draw knob console controls five divisions, including an antiphonal division with a trompette-en-chamade, located in the rear gallery of the church.

Salary

Compensation: $50,000 – $60,000, dependent upon experience and qualifications, adhering to the guidelines of the Association of Anglican Musicians

  • Trinity Church will consider applicants who would prefer to serve as Director of Music (Choirmaster & Organist) and those who are only interested in either role as Choirmaster or Organist
